February Classic - Duke Ellington - Money Jungle

One supergroup that did not suck. This album helped put Duke Ellington into the uncategorizable category. Charles Mingus on bass, Max Roach on drums and the Duke on piano.

Nooo, this is not piano, this is dreaming

OK, Duff -- after a lot of research, I'm really pumped to acquire this album and they actually have it on 200 gram. The lowest I've seen it for is around $40. Just ordered 4 records (including Wally's pic), so I'm looking for a way to afford getting this. Do you have it on vinyl? Any ideas?

What else did you get? The National?

6.99 on iTunes...although if you could swing it, what a purchase it would be. I would love to lay a needle down on this album.

Lust for Life, Fun House (180g fun house!!!!), The People's Key (Bright Eyes brand new one), and I'm Wide Awake It's Morning (Bright Eyes).

However, I have been trying to pay attention to The National when theyre on the radio lately. Always kinda thought they were a good but underwhelming band with a brooding lead singer and a shitty name. Hopefully I'm wrong cause they seem like a pretty big band for AF's opener.

Anyone more impressed than I've been?

I felt the same way, but I broke down and got it on Pacini's enthusiastic endorsement and the fact that we'll be seeing them. It's a really good album, but it takes a few spins to get what they are doing. Not sure what to expect out of them live. It's a pretty drastic tempo difference between AF, which is probably the point.

The name is horrible

Quit your IMing and get back on track. This album is jazz. I like jazz. If you like jazz too, listen to the album and check out this link when you have a chance: http://www.pbs.org/jazz/index.htm I also like Ken Burns. I'm halfway done with his Jazz series and I am not exaggerating when I say that it blows my "Survey of American Jazz" class out of the water. Which by the way took place in the Center of the Arts building at good ole UWW. Ahhh, those were the days.
